Creating a Test Server Account

23 03 2008

Advantages to having a character on Test:

- experience Game Updates ahead of time
- 50% permanent bonus to experience gain
- increased loot drops
- 7 extra character slots for use on the Test server
- ability to /feedback and discuss bugs and errors
- play with the Devs!

HOW TO CREATE TEST ACCOUNT

1.)  Open your EQ2 game directory — usually Program Files > Sony > Everquest 2

2.)  Select all Files in the directory

3.)  Using CNTRL-Click, de-select the following directories: /cache/  /login/  /login-{region}/  /logs/  /screenshots/ /TestServer/ and the file eq2_default.ini

(Note: It’s usually best to do this while in “List” view rather than Icon or Thumb view.)

4.)  File > Copy the remaining selected files

5.)  Open the TestServer folder and File > Paste the files

6.)  The copy process may take up to 15 minutes, and uses about 21 GB for the entire transfer assuming you have the RoK install

You have now created an entire second client within your TestServer folder, that will be separate from your standard game client, and enable you to patch files for both clients individually.

7.)  From the TestServer folder, select the TestEQ2.exe red launchpad icon, Right-Click > Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut)

8.)  Now from your desktop, simply click the TestEQ2 icon!

9.)  The Test client launches.  You will still see your EQ2players info on the right hand side of the Launchpad.  On the lefthand side, there will be a short file scan, about 5 minutes, and perhaps a small patch applied.   The drop-down character select will be empty — you have not created any characters on the Test server, after all!

10.)  When you are ready to play on the standard Live servers, simply use your regular EQ2 launch icon (the blue one).  The red icon will be only for when you play on the Test server!
