List Upcoming Mythical Changes

27 06 2008

Our Favorite Developer™ has posted the preliminary list of changes to Mythical weapons.

This won’t affect most of you since most you don’t have your Mythical, but it’s good to look forward to a year from now, right?  ;)

For those of you who DO have or will soon have your Mythical class weapon – eat your hearts out:

Some of you are curious of the epic changes coming in GU47.  Below is the list of preliminary changes that you will see with the update.  As usual these are subject to change before the update goes live.  Feel free to add in any constructive feedback you might have on the changes outlined below.

Wrath of Nature ( Fury )

  • Now gives out damage and heal amount bonuses
  • Mythical now improves healing and damage spells based upon a percentage of your wisdom and intelligence respectively.  This has replaced the Savage Feast effect.

The Impact of the Sacrosanct ( Templar )

  • The proc effect should now last slightly longer
  • Added a bonus to reactives based on the templar’s wisdom

Cudgel of Obviation ( Mystic )

  • The mythical version’s Spirit Tap will only trigger by the mystic’s group members.  Also the heal and power bonuses have been reduced.

Dream Scorcher( Defiler )

  • This now gives heal crit instead of spell crit.
  • Now grants bonuses to both spells and heals.
  • Proc should no longer drop when damage is taken

Penitent’s Absolution( Inquisitor )

  • Improved the Aftershock heal amount and also added a bonus to casting time and reuse time of heals
  • Penitent Protection will now allow 25% of the damage to go to the intended target.  20% of the incoming damage will then be split amongst fighters in the group.  This should make this spell less of a tank killer but the caster must still pay careful attention to their tank.

Dragon’s Temper ( Berserker )

  • Mythical now grants improved hate gain
  • Changed the double attack bonus to melee critical chance.

The Truth of Marr ( Paladin )

  • The delay is now 6 seconds.
  • Added a damage proc to the weapon.
  • Should now give both spell and combat art damage bonuses

Sedition ( Shadowknight )

  • The delay is now 6 seconds.
  • Added a damage proc to the weapon.
  • Should now give both spell and combat art damage bonuses

Death’s Grip ( Warlock )

  • The dumbfire pet bonus has changed to improve the warlock’s critical damage by 10%.

Eye of the Siren ( Coercer )

  • Now gives a subjugation bonus
  • The mythical now removes the concentration cost of Possess Essence

Mirage Star ( Illusionist )

  • Now gives a subjugation bonus

Havoc, Blade of Treachery ( Brigand )

  • Instead of giving haste to the brigand the proc will now lower their casting time

Gorynn’s Fist ( Bruiser )

  • The proc will now give the bruiser an additional chance to critical melee attacks

Revitalized Vel`Arek ( Guardian )

  • The mythical proc will now only do 5% damage reduction.

SOE to Compound Official Forums

27 06 2008

Most notable of the announcement is that there is going to be a re-focus on the Class boards, and the Spells,Abilities, Combat Arts and Achievements boards will be going away in favor of this renewed focus on Class discussions.

This is GOOD.

Here is the link:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=422010

And here is a nice tidbit from Grimmie:

On our end, we know that this implies that we will be actively scanning the class forums for feedback, and while we can’t always post, we will do our level best to meet up with that implication.

To be clear: Not every post in a class forum will get a developer answer. Truthfully, the vast majority of them won’t, but this change and refocus on the class boards will make it easier for the team to find what they need, when they need it.

State of the Sorcerer 2008

25 06 2008

I debated posting this for almost two months, for fear of being branded a “whiner” or a “bad player.”

However this situation has now grown beyond ridiculous, and the lack of any kind of attention for YEARS now, aside from a few bug fixes and some tweaks, in the face of nearly ABSURD boosts to certain other classes, has just grown to be too much to contain, at this point. So here goes.

What I post her pertains to TWO classes: wizards and warlocks, and our current total disgruntlement with where we sit on the totem pole. I’m not going to be pretentious and try to pass this off like I am really not concerned with parses. My online life revolves around the parse — I chose a PURE caster class when I rolled my toon and I expected to give up, and WANTED to give up, all utility and mitigation in favor of ultimate, total annihilation via doing pure, obscene damage.

Sadly. This is not the case with these two classes, and so much so have we fallen in the wake of other “utility” classes that most high-end raiders don’t even consider us DPS anymore.

So here goes.

Last night we went into SoH and cleared to the Sisters.

We did this and then reset the zone to see what the trash might offer.

My group, the mage group, had neither a Troubador nor an Illusionist. The melee groups had some help in the form of dirges but were also lacking an Illusionist for themselves. So I felt it was a good time to truly gauge where we stand when things are as equal as they could ever be –

On both sets of zonewide parses it looked like:

Assassin
Assassin
Assassin
Brigand
Warlock
Warlock
Wizard

Our second run through was done with the sorcerers mostly close to OOP since we chain pulled trash and we had no real power battery but the parse looked much the same, except a Ranger replaced Assassin #3, and the second Warlock flopped with the Wizard.

So from what I saw, had there been the proper support, I likely would have parsed up in the second or third spot, and the other mages would then file down. Which sounds okay (actually no it doesn’t, we should be number 1 considering what we give up, which is everything, but be that as it may, I am willing to concede the top spot once in awhile to predators — but ONLY predators – and not in the obscene difference of 2000-3000 DPS which is about what it is between Assassins and anyone else, as anyone could tell you whose gone on a raid in the past 2 years) …

Here’s the problem – and it’s not anything new. It’s been a building issue for several years and in particular in the past 9 months, and has become VERY evident in the past 3 months with the recent changes to Enchanter DPS and WIS/debuff resist rates on 82+ mobs.

Why does my class require TWO other support classes simply to perform about on par with a scout who requires, comparatively, no support whatsoever? And wears chain and has higher HP, higher avoidance, and higher mit? And comes with a built in hate transfer of anywhere between 15% and 40% ?

At this point the frustration among not just warlocks, but among wizards as well (go check the wizard forums and check the raid forums on EQ2flames if you think warlocks are the only ones who feel overlooked – wizards ain’t any better off) – the frustration is not just that we parse #4-6, behind predators and rogues, and sometimes even summoners or enchanters, and even the odd bruiser, but that on top of that, we bring comparatively little to the raid. Summoners and Enchanters are coming up on our heels with DPS and bring a ton more utility. Well screw utility — I don’t want it and never have — but if we give ALL of that up … we ought to be unquestionably at the top. Instead, we get a hate transfer of 3-4% that doesn’t stack with either other warlocks OR wizards; wizzies have Velium Gift, Iceshape, etc. which are decent procs. Warlocks bring even less — a nerfed Propagations that requires 20 points in a largely useless line (aside from NR and Nihilistics bonus) and Pillaging, which costs so much power to cast that it’s practically of no use at all when you are sitting at less than 5%. And as the kick in the gut – our DPS is not anywhere near the top except in ridiculously specific situations.

Additionally, I sat and watched all 3 of the sorcerers burn through their power at a rate which nearly TRIPLED that of any other class. Scouts sat using less than 10% of their power on the trash pulls, and rarely, if ever, ran out even on a fight like Master P. We start to fell fucking stupid in Vent having to constantly ask to wait while the rest of raid was itching to GO and sitting pretty with full power after 30 second epic x4 battles where the raid is pumping out 40k. 40k and the only ones out of power are the soercerers who don’t even parse in the top THREE!!? CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG THERE!?

So that leaves most raid-leaders scratching their heads thinking: “Gee … why should I bring three broke-ass classes who require so much support when I can bring 2 Illy’s that are spec’d for melee and a boatload of assassins, brigands, swashies, and even rangers?” I mean I have to admit, if I were the leader of our raids I might think long and hard about taking a sorcerer who needed two backup classes just to parse even or only slightly ahead of various scouts.

To add salt to a wound, for years we raise issue with things and yet while brigands, assassins, rangers, illusionists get attention (and lately with brigands it’s like every little thing they cry about gets an insta-fix when they are already seriously overpowered “Give us more debuffs YAY” “Give us debuffs that never miss YAY” “Give us all your DPS EVAR YAY”) — sorcerers slowly fall further and further and further away from being anywhere close to what one could consider … relevant. We are irrelevant. We don’t offer anything, we don’t BRING anything that any other class can’t bring, and bring more of, with less cost. That’s as blunt as I can be.

I have long upheld the torch for warlocks and sorcerers in general as anyone whose seen my posts could tell — I’ve even defended Aeralik on multiple occassions as well as many other developers, and constantly made excuses to justify the sad state of our two classes, which have been on a slow but constant decline in desirability since KoS — but at some point the facts simply speak for themselves … across the board sorcerers are in a bad way and it isn’t just in the warlock forum or on the wizard forum — it’s talking to any raiding sorcerer in the game, reading the same complaints on numerous forums. We feel un-needed on raids, bring comparatively equal DPS to classes which bring much more to the table than we do, we still have long-standing problems with burst DPS mechanics that cause us to die before classes who output triple our burst damage, and basically, we require support from other classes which no other class aside from tanks need, just so we can perform on a level barely even with assassins or brigs.

It’s just … enough is enough. Seriously.

My closing comment is this:

… the standard retort from several developers and mouthpieces over the years has been that parsers and parse results, and the consequential feelings they evoke in players, are formed by perceptions, perceptions which do not reflect an accurate reality.

Well, as any philosopher can tell you – at a certain point perception IS reality.  So I ask you — be as it may that a perception is incorrect, so you say, how is it that hundreds of players, all perceiving the very same things, are not then grounded in a very REAL truth?

Built-in EQ2 Voice Chat: Feedback Wanted

23 06 2008

The dev team has been hard at work on an integrated voice chat system utilizing Vivox technology.

It looks quite robust and is built right into the default UI.

Here is the official link with all the details:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=421330

Please join the Test server and give it a spin — then leave your feedback in the above thread!

Let them know what you like and dislike, how it can be improved or if it needs improvements, and how you feel the overall quality compares to systems like Ventrilo or Teamspeak!

If you don’t know how to join the Test server, take a look at the how-to article I posted.

Noel? Who?

22 06 2008

Oh yeah, that guy. Illucide. Isn’t that like a latin term for the mass killing of video game developers or something? Anyway.

He’s pretty fucking cute. If you go for the shy, nerdy types.  I really can’t see if he’s got a wedding ring on or what, and there is no mention of wife.

(I might have crossed a line, I don’t know. … .. My brain doesn’t really have ‘lines’ so much as strange squiggly blurs.) ;)

No New Races

22 06 2008

Dev Kirstie said in the EQ2 Stratics chat:

Kirstie - “soon” ™ is a pretty strong term for any new races :) Right now there are no plans for any type of new playable races.

THANK.  GOD.

Froglok Monks Are the Bomb

15 06 2008

Did you KNOW ..

.. Froglok monks get their very own unique and distinctive fighting animations!?  I’m talking flips, upside down kicks, rolls, backhands … And they look friggin awesome!

Never having ever bothered to roll a frog monk before I literally JUST found this out!  haha … I remember seeing the animations in the early froglok videos when frogs were unlocked.  But I assumed that like most of the videos at the time it was just for show and not to be taken literally.

Sony devs and art team and motion capture people.  PLEASE!  Do more of this kind of thing!  This is the very thing which builds heart and soul and character into an otherwise static and cookie cutter world of which so many MMO’s lack!  Racial fighting animations is something I have wanted to see more of for years!

It’s that Time Kids! What time is it!? It’s QUOTE OF THE DAY TIME!

15 06 2008

From Sage Luier on the SOE boards:

The community you speak of is in-game and ready to accept you, its only here on the forums that you find idiots who do nothing but complain about everything! Yes the LOYAL forum trolls are here to stay!

In reply to a disgruntled Legacy poster who feels that she is unwanted by the EQ2 community.

Ratwarlock’s Wish List (Ideas for Improving the Game)

14 06 2008

The WISH LIST — UPDATED 9.11.09

In no particular order.  Things I would like to see implemented or changed in the game (and as they are changed, I cross them out!)

Racial, gender, and/or class-based emotes, particularly /dance and /sit

More “matched sets” of collectible / quested armor

NPC’s that “direct” players in quest progression from one logical zone to the next

Level 40+ Dungeon Accessibility / Zone Revamps

Update!  EVERFROST has been revamped!
Update!  LAVASTORM has been revamped!

Thoughts:

  • thin out mob populations
  • add in visual cues, like signposts, to help new players navigate to these awesome dungeons
  • mob are tuned for solo or duo players (with some sprinkled in heroic or named)
  • certain if the overland sections remain heroic exclusively, but somewhat off the beaten path
  • update the quest lines and streamline the preogression
  • increase XP for these areas since they are extra challenging

Upgrade / Revamp the Old World Dungeons and Zones from 35-50!

These zones and dungeons are in BAD need of new content, quest lines, quest hubs, solo friendly progression paths, new group challenges and contested mobs, and all around re-itemization of quest reward vs. risk!

  • Feerott
  • Everfrost DONE
  • Lavastorm DONE
  • Permafrost
  • Solusek Eye
  • Cazic Thule
  • Obelisk of Lost Souls
  • Tower of the Drafling
  • Rivervale

Cloth Armor Diversity
UPDATE!  Crafted Cloth and Leather appearances will be changing in GU48

DoT Icons Have a Visual Cue when DoT Expires (Most Desired)
All icons refresh after the recast is over — but how about adding a visual cue to the DoT/HoT icons so the player looking at their hotbar can easily distinguish when to re-cast the DoT.  Many DoT’s expire on an entirely different timer than the recast itself.  I realize this infringes on maintaining an element “player skill” but I also think it would be a welcome change from having to sort the mess that is the Spell Status window – particularly in raids or groups.

Auto-Loot When Solo (Most Desired)

Journal/Tracker Locks on Current Selected Quest (Most Desired)
or Can Show in Tracker More than One Quest at a Time

When Auto-Assisting via Implied Target (ie Assisting the MT/MA by Targeting Him) a Numeric Indicator Shows the Number of Mobs in the Selected Encouter (Super Most Desired)

No Placeholders!
Update! GU 53 will contain many changes in this regard.

All-In-One Status Buyers In Every City, Central Hubs
Update! Guild Hall merchants will buy all types.

Increase Reward / Stats on Heritage Quests in the Old World

Make belts visible!

Add various color light-sources to more gear!

Remodel the griffon towers!
First of all, a SINGLE, gradient ramp.  None of this 180-degree turning on a narrow little ramp (and twice, at that!).  The ramp should be big and wide and the bottom and go straight up to the perch, narrowing as it rises.  The “tower” can actually be designed to look like a windmill, with the perch sitting at the top, just under the spindle, and this would make perfect sense in places like Thunderring Steppes, Antonica, and the Commonlands.  The color scheme should be much brighter, reds and whites, or yellows, blues … anything other than the boring, bland brown.  EQ2 has WAY too much brown as it is!  ‘World of Brownquest,’ indeed!

Lizard mounts to run through the Feerott!
Because how friggin cool would that be!?

Looking for Guild tool! (Most Desired!)
I would love a tool that allows me to advertise:

  • what type of guild I want to join
  • playstyle of guild
  • my general playtime hours

This would help everyone and people would be more likely to find what they want / recruit whom they want.

Dungeons for the 70-77 range!
Because soloing 400 quests in Kunark makes me a sad panda.
