View it in HD on YouTube (you should do this. It’s bigger and better there than this crappy little box you see here!) hahah Just make sure to click the HD button!
I will do another one soon.

I will do another one soon.
I added another video to my YouTube channel. This was made from a quick excursion into SoF (I know, I know, it’s an old and boring zone and our group was way overpowered for it, yes … but it’s a cool looking zone and I wanted to make a video!)
Low-def embed:
Nestled in a serene riverbed in Rivervale, the exterior of the Drafling’s Tower appears to be nothing more than a simple structure of one room. However, the bixies have taken over the interior and turned the former JumJum factory into a huge swarming hive. The narrow, cramped tunnels wind and twist deep beneath Rivervale’s surrounding mountain range, filled with giant bees, bixie workers, and larvae.
This video didn’t turn out quite as I would have liked … the compression has made it a bit too dark, unfortunately, but at least it’s got a kickin soundtrack.

Lo def version:
The 7th installment in the video showcase, featuring Everfrost.
(I had actually planned on doing Everfrost since the very beginning, it just worked out nicely that I got around to it after they completed the revamp.)

Low-def version:
I know you’ve all been waiting patiently for the next Video Showcase. This time I switched it up and showed an actual gameplay session with a group. And I chose everyone’s favorite dungeon, Runneye.
This video is in high def at the YouTube site itself! GO WATCH IT THERE!
For those impatient here is the low def:
I know I said I would do part 3 of Sol Eye. But I think parts 1 and 2 covered it sufficiently. Got to let the newbies enjoy their first visit to Nagafen!
So here is the 4th video of the Showcase, highlighting Greater Faydark.
Hope you like!
For those of you new – previous Showcase entries:
Solusek’s Eye Part 2
Solusek’s Eye Part 1
Neriak, City of Hate
I had originally intended only for 2 of these to encompass all of Sol Eye, upper and lower. Upon re-entering lower Sol Eye, however, I soon realized that I had far too much video capture footage to edit into just 1 video: about 13 minutes. So this is roughly half of the footage, 7 minutes or so. Part 3 will arrive sometime in the next 2 weeks.
This section of Sol Eye is by far my favorite area of the game to adventure within. The first time I went through it I was just in awe the entire time, years ago, as a level 42 newbie. I was in a group at the time and back in those days (ha) things were a bit different in EQ2. No achievements, slower XP gain, and generally tougher mobs, no to mention that doing Sol Eye at the appropriate level (pre-50) is STILL no cake walk. But back then, it took HOURS, literally, to get from the entrance to the second teleporter, and then HOURS to get to the bottom — and that was AFTER you ALREADY spent HOURS getting TO the damned entrance in Lavastorm. Was it fun – well, in hindsight, yes, and a mark of pride. However, at the time, I am quite sure a few choice words and phrases came out of my mouth, probably in long strings of verbal tirade, at that.
But the VIEW made it all worth it. It was just breathtaking – and still is. This video can’t do the true, wide-screen experience, in full definition, justice – so check it out yourself sometime!
Interestingly, a few people I’ve chatted with, and some who have seen the video, have commented that it’s too bad most people don’t go — or have NEVER been — to Sol Eye. Which, given the restrictions I mention above, and the age of the world that it sits in (i.e. the “Old World” as we vets like to call it) as well as the sparse population at levels 40-60, isn’t all that surprising. And that’s a shame, given the obvious amount of time that was spent on creating the absolute largest interior area of the game to date.
But chew on this: what if Sony revamped Sol Eye and made it available as a high-end (or even – low end?) INSTANCE — much like that are doing with Runnyeye? (Still available as the standard public dungeon – but also with the option to do the group-instanced version, that is.) The instanced version, like the planned RE instance and Nektropos before it, complete with re-done loot tables for the relevant tier/s, maybe the chance at a brand new piece or two, and more balanced and accessible mob population. Are you reading me, Sony?
Well anyhow. Here is the video! Enjoy ~
part 3 will feature the final descent to Nagafen, of course.
My future plans for the showcase include the Tower of the Drafling, Permafrost, Greater Faydark, Runnyeye Citadel, and then, who knows? Perhaps something from DoF. My inspiration for the zones tends to come from music, first, and I kind of get this image in my head of what songs will fit with what areas. For instance, Greater Faydark to me has a very melancholy and calm feel to it, and I already knew what song I wanted to put with the imagery. This video I’m putting up, today, however, is covering a section of Sol Eye that I have always felt is downright creepy, so I picked some (again) of NIN’s great instrumental music that I felt represented that feeling — but the song was in my head as the impetus for the video, first.
Isn’t it strange how things can work on you, like that? Maybe the non-creative types miss this aspect of art completely, I don’t know, but every writer and artist I know says that music is most definitely one of their primary motivators when it comes to inspiration to create something. That’s certainly always been true for me, as well.
Showcasing Solusek’s Eye: entrance, upper tunnels and lower mines.
Part 2 forthcoming.
Enjoy!
I was inspired.
Hope you all like ~
Wish YouTube didn’t cut back the quality QUITE so much … but ah well. Such is the price for free video hosting.
Enjoy!
